The Appeal

Toyota’s Supra models have a fervent and enthusiastic following. While the Mk4 may be the darling of the Fast & Furious crowd, the earlier models are very collectible and increasingly rare modern classics.
This Mk3 Non-Turbo has been pampered and meticulously cared for from new, as is evidenced by the huge history file and the way it presents. According to ‘How Many Left’, there are fewer than 50 Mk3s on the road in the UK, and we doubt that any of them are in such an original and well-preserved state as this example. Rare, unmodified and in the most desirable specification, this is a JDM delight that you will not want to miss.

The Interior

  • Original grey velour upholstery
  • Electric windows and mirrors
  • Electrically operated lumbar adjustment
  • Air-conditioning
  • Modern Kenwood CD/radio system
The interior of this Supra is something of a time-warp, presenting in superb, unmodified condition. There are some very minor signs of use and slight wear, but they are so minimal they are to all intents and purposes irrelevant. That classic grey upholstery is in fabulously good order, with no evidence we could see of tears or significant wear, and no noticeable sagging to the seat squabs or bolsters.
Grey carpets run through the cabin, complete with the original overmats, which are still in reasonable condition, and a further set of custom ‘Supra’ branded overmats. All the carpeting appears to be in tidy, undamaged condition. There is certainly no staining or threading that we could see. Looking up at the headlining, it appears to be secure, undamaged and has no signs of staining.
There is a small amount of wear evident on the gear lever and steering wheel, as you’d expect, but it’s entirely commensurate with the age, mileage and condition of the vehicle. All of the instruments and switchgear look to be in very good condition, with the vendor reporting that everything works just as it should, with no gremlins or issues.
Under that large rear hatch, there’s a surprisingly large luggage area. Trimmed out in dark grey carpet, tailored to cover the spare wheel, it presents very nicely. There are a handful of minor scuffs and blemishes to the plastics as you’d anticipate from a vehicle that’s 30 years old. However, overall it looks very good indeed, with a full-size spare wheel, the original tool roll and the jack. It all looks as if it’s never been used, and the factory retractable load cover is also present and correct.

The Exterior

  • Factory Sunburst Red paintwork
  • Unrestored and rust proofed from new
  • Completely unmodified and genuine
  • Original Toyota alloy wheels
If you’ve ever been in doubt as to the benefits of rust-proofing and garaging a car from new, this car is the perfect example to look at. Not only is it completely unmodified and original, but it appears to be completely free from any signs of corrosion, dinks or notable paintwork blemishes. The vendor notes that, under workshop inspection lights, there are some areas of very slight paint fade to the roof and bonnet, but it’s so slight that it’s invisible in natural light. Certainly, we think the paintwork and bodywork looks to be in excellent condition.
Much the same can be said of the external trim, glass areas and light lenses. We saw no evidence of cracking, damage or significant blemishes. All of the badging is present and correct too.
It’s nice to see a 90s JDM sports car that is still riding on its factory wheels too. The 5-spoke 16” alloys really suit the vehicle and present in fine order, with no kerbing or lacquer peel discernible to our eyes. We’re told by the vendor that the tyres are in nice condition, with good tread levels.
Where this car really shines, however, is underneath. Anyone that knows Japanese cars of this period expects a certain amount of corrosion to the underside. Thankfully, the owner took the wise decision to rust proof the vehicle from new as well as to keep it garaged. This careful ownership has clearly paid dividends as the underside looks absolutely superb for a vehicle of this vintage. There is a small amount of surface corrosion apparent on the exhaust system and some suspension components, but it appears very minor. The sills, wheel arches, valances and floor pans look to be entirely corrosion free, straight and undamaged.

The Mechanics

  • 2,954cc, 24-valve, twin-cam, inline-six (7M-GE)
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Excellent service record and MOT history
  • Completely unmodified and to factory specification
With a melodious and torquey inline-six, the Supra was always the sort of car that put a grin on the faces of petrolheads. The big coupé offering a hearty 232bhp, all delivered to the rear wheels. This example is also fitted with the manual transmission – a rare and much sought after spec, as many cars were automatics.
Up until it went into storage in 2019 the car has a full, stamped service history and excellent MOT record. Since then, it has been carefully and professionally maintained. The last service was carried out in June 2022 at 78,755 miles, while the vendor tells us that the cambelt was changed at 76,477 miles.
Looking under the bonnet, the engine bay is near pristine and presented in original, unmodified condition. We could see no signs of oil leaks or overheating issues. In fact, the owner assures us that the car runs and drives beautifully, braking and accelerating as it should, with no leaks, no smoke under load and no unusual noises or vibrations.

Summary

If you’ve always wanted to put a Mk3 on your driveway (and who hasn’t?), then this is it. This is the one you want. We’ve rarely seen a car of this type and vintage so well cared for and meticulously maintained.
With genuinely low mileage, one registered owner, that delightful manual transmission and absolutely no modifications, this uncommon survivor must be one of the finest examples outside of Toyota’s heritage collection.
