The Appeal

The subject of 'best off-roader' will continue to be fought for decades, and we're never one to sit ourselves in any single manufacturer's camp - but it must be said that Toyota are no slouches when it comes to big, rugged 4x4s. First introduced in the '50s, by 1990 it had followed a similar trajectory to the British Range Rover - a little more comfortable and glamorous without sacrificing that rugged, do-anything, go-anywhere philosophy.

The 80 series was the first to introduce coil springs and offered a far more comfortable ride than its elder brethren. To this day, off-road enthusiasts herald it as one of the best under the moniker, and we're not ones to argue with the experts!

This 1992 car has undergone significant modifications, and is set to undergo a full like-for-like engine transplant before sale. Packed with plenty of creature comforts and every bit as capable of scaling the countryside as it was when built, we expect this 80-Series will find itself with a very happy new owner.

Front windows work fine but are slightly slow
All instruments work except for the altimeter and compass near the sunroof switches
Cloth seats appear in smart condition, except for a small tear in the driver's seat
Seats are covered in Escape Gear Africa imported canvas seat covers throughout
All instruments are clear and legible

The Mechanics
