Background
Ever since the first Mini rolled off the production lines in 1959, it has to be the most recognised car in the world.
A design classic conceived by Alex Issigonis with a brief to come up with a small family car, capable of seating 4 people in comfort , carrying their luggage, economical and of course cheap to produce.
Alex & his small team came up with the “wheel at each corner “, a transverse engine driving the front wheels and a revolutionary suspension system which provided excellent handling capabilities.
So hence the Mini was born into the swinging sixties and cemented it’s place in popular culture. It remained in production right up to 2000, with over 5 million cars being produced.
History
First registered on the 23rd of September 1992, little is known of its history, although it would appear to have been well looked after and subjected to some restoration works.
Only recently purchased by the vendor after waiting ages for the right car to come along, unexpected circumstances mean he has to now part with his dream Mini.
Paperwork
There is a current V5c in the owner’s name and recent a recent receipt for works undertaken last month.
Interior
We would suggest that the seats have been recovered and appear to be in very good condition, no tears or scrapes visible, carpets and roof lining are looking great too.
The door cards are certainly not showing many signs of use and have been fitted with aftermarket handles adding to the sporty nature of this Mini.
Dash is an aftermarket accessory, painted to match the exterior with the original binnacle now holding white faced dials.
Exterior
This Sprite would appear to have recently had a full respray which has been done very well and is overall in great condition. There are one or two very small chips and scratches through use, but nothing that detracts from the car’s overall great looks.
We would suggest that it’s been garaged certainly since its respray, the seams and sills would appear sound with just a very small sign of bubbling under the paint at the top left of the driver’s door.
Mechanics
This 1275cc Mini’s engine started easily for the photoshoot, the engine being quiet and smoke free, with the twin outlet exhaust giving a deep throated burble out the back.
There appears to be a new carb & sports air filter fitted, but under the bonnet would appear to be very tidy & much as standard.
Disc braked are fitted to the front hubs, and what would appear to new Monroe shocks to help with roadholding.
The rear subframe also appears to be held in place by polybushes which again will help give a more sporting feel to this Mini’s handling.
There aren’t and receipts available to establish the works undertaken, but the overall feel of this car is that of care and attention to detail during its fairly recent past.
Appeal
It’s a Mini with Cooper like looks so what’s not to like. Design icon, sixties classic, successful rally and racing car with a cult following wherever she goes.
Easy to work on, original & uprated parts readily available, lots of specialist help out there so an easy classic car to own and enjoy.
