HIGHLIGHTS

  • Known history from new
  • Must be one of the best

THE APPEAL

Spoken of in hushed tones by the Lancia Integrale community, the first “Evoluzione” model, or Evo 1 as it has become better known, is regarded as the very best of the bunch, the last to not have a catalytic converter and the last to be fully homologated for world rallying.
Remapped to 210bhp, it also got wider arches to accommodate a broader track, raised strut mounts and front and rear strut braces, along with wider bodywork and improved cooling.
Now, here’s your chance to own a genuine rally legend – ones in this condition come up rarely if at all – it’s an absolute stunner.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Owned by vendor for 17 years
  • Fully restored in 2017
  • Old invoices and MOTs
  • UK V5C
  • New MOT on sale
  • Original sales brochure

THE INTERIOR

  • Black leather upholstery
  • Sports seats
  • Auxiliary dials
  • Original tool kit
  • Left-hand drive

This is an extremely special car in every respect and the interior doesn’t disappoint. Styled in the way that only an Italian car can be, the cabin is typified by a stack of switches, gauges and dials that all add to the aura of it being a road-going rally car, with additional boost gauges and oil pressure readings that you wouldn’t find in a lesser Delta.

The seats are trimmed in black leather with a sporty perforated texture, and they’re in good original order with some minor signs of wear, but nothing at all off-putting.
All of the electrics appear to work as they should although the passenger side electric window is a bit slow to go up and down.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Monza Red
  • Complete stripdown and respray in 2017 with little use since
  • Perfect OZ alloys
  • Absolutely stunning

Finished in Monza Red, which is arguably the best colour for an Evo 1, the Delta is absolutely breath-taking to look at.
It really is incredible. Five years ago, the owner decided to have it completely stripped and rebuilt even though he says it was rust-free and very presentable to start with. He wanted it perfect, and that’s largely what he’s achieved. The shell was stripped to bare metal, dipped and galvanised before being repainted in its original colour. The finish is sensational.

This is a good as an Integrale gets, and there are no apparent issues, while it has a deep a lustrous shine. The alloys were refurbished at the same time and fitted with new tyres, which have covered only 1,000 or so miles since.

THE MECHANICS

  • 2.0-litre turbo
  • Five-speed manual
  • Four-wheel-drive
  • Recent full service
  • Well-maintained by garage-owning vendor

Although he hasn’t covered a huge number of miles in the 17 years he’s owned the car, the vendor has been very particular about its maintenance, helped by the fact he owns two garages and has had the car serviced and maintained annually by his own staff. He absolutely adores the car and has ensured it has always had everything it has needed.
It starts on the button and sounds amazing, the turbo kicking in with a noticeable jolt under hard acceleration. He describes it as “truly thrilling” to drive and reports that it has no known problems. The car will be given a full service and a new MOT before it is handed over to the new owner.

SUMMARY

Delta Integrales are really coming into their own among collectors these days and the first Evoluzione model is arguably the most cherished of the lot.

This one is a car that, like its rally compatriots of the early 1990s, will take some beating. It’s marvellous – a really impressive example and surely one of the best to come onto the open market.
