Highlights

- Rare manual transmission
- Great overall condition
- Good service history
The Appeal
Who doesn’t love a Jag? This one is finished in a lovely dark green metallic and comes with a highly unusual manual gearbox that’s coupled to the rather lusty 4-litre straight 6 engine. Great overall condition with only a few little marks and chips that hint at its age. A good service history and previous MOT certificates accompany this low-flying, luxury coupe which will inspire confidence in any buyer.
The History and Paperwork
- Previous MOT certificates
- Original service book stamped to 105K
- Invoices for recent work
- Professional inspection document
- Vendor states that the car has always been garaged
- 12 months MoT - passed with no advisories
Here’s a car that has received the sort of servicing regime that it deserves. Accompanying the car is a folder of recent invoices and past MOT certificates that helps map out this Jag’s life. The original book pack contains the service book, which has been fully stamped up to 105,000 miles. At the time of purchase, the current owner undertook some work and also had a professional assessment of the car. This has highlighted a few age-related issues that a new owner may wish to complete. None of these jobs are MOT failures, in fact, the present owner is happy to have a fresh test done for the new owner even though the current certificate is valid until September.
The Interior
- Contrasting leather seating and trim
- CD Auto-changer
- Burr walnut inserts
Sitting inside a Jag will always be a pleasurable and comfortable experience. This one has a delightful contrasting interior with deep leather seats front and rear. The condition of the seats is good with the Driver’s seat showing the most traffic, as you’d expect. The wear appears in the form of discolouration rather than damage and would benefit from a professional clean. The passenger and rear seats appear to have been used extremely sparingly and look in great condition.
The door cards are clean too with only the merest amount of marks. There’s a decent-looking tape deck fitted with a CD multi-changer situated in the boot. The carpets are good, and the interior has worn well over the last 30 years with only minor marks and blemishes. The boot is generous if not entirely stain free and the spare wheel does encroach a little on the available space but being a Jag there’s still room for a fair bit of luggage.

The Exterior
- Lovely BRG/Brooklands green paintwork
- Factory-fitted alloy wheels
- Face-lift rear lighting
- Great overall exterior condition
There are few indications to give away the 30-year age of this lovey Jag. Of course, there are a few stone chips to the leading edge of the bonnet and one or two parking dings to its flanks, the worst being a dent in the driver’s door which can be treated with relative ease. However, that colour is so suitable for such a prestigious sports coupe being in Brooklands Green. The colour shows off its lovely lines and as this is the later facelifted version, that rear end is divine.
A set of factory alloys sit on each corner and they too are in great condition. A pair of Hella drive lamps sit below the front bumper and are bright and clear, however, the driver’s side headlamp, unfortunately, has stone damage which would appear to not impede efficacy. The car has not been raised to be inspected but the images obtained at ground level appear to show the underside to be sound with only a little de-lamination of the underseal here and there.

The Mechanics
The 6-cylinder 4-litre engine is at the heart of this XJS and supplies an excellent mix of performance and smoothness. This one has been coupled to a manual transmission which is a little unusual as most received the auto gearbox. This stick shift will undoubtedly provide a more involved drive over the auto alternative.
The current owner has spent some recent money on ensuring the car stays in good working order and has gone to great lengths to engage with specialised people to obtain a list of possible improvements that can be made in the future. It has certainly been looked after by the previous owner as well, who was the keeper for 20 years and his care certainly shows. To summarise, in the past few months the car has had new brakes pads all around, air and oil filters, oil change, new belts, new spark plugs, new battery, new fuel pump and a full check-over.

Summary
The XJS is one of those cars that is so British because it combines power and grace with sumptuous comfort and luxury. This one is blessed with having a manual transmission which will serve to reward a spirited driver with a much more analogue experience. This one also hides its age very well with only a few minor blemishes and appears to have escaped the ravages of corrosion.
It really wouldn’t take much to get from really nice to excellent in the condition department. That said, this car is ready to be enjoyed with a good history and a new MOT certificate without the need for any more outlay. With less than 130 left on our roads with the manual gearbox must make this car a rare and desirable thing.
