The Attractions
What would happen if Ford decided to compete with the Mazda MX-5? Ford itself seems to have asked itself this question when it developed the Mercury Capri.
Produced by Ford Australia and sold in the United States from 1991 to 1994, the Mercury Capri XR2 1.6 Turbo was a very unusual car for Ford, with very unique features.
With its 134-hp supercharged engine, it offered very brilliant performance for the time. The XR2 version was distinguished by its independent rear suspension and stronger anti-roll bars, which made it particularly desirable to sports driving enthusiasts.
The enormous success of the Japanese rival meant that very few Mercury Capri's were sold, so finding an example in original condition like this is very difficult. With only 73,900 miles on the odometer, this is a very well preserved car and the seller reports that it has been carefully maintained since new.
Recent servicing has included belt replacements and oil and filter changes to ensure its efficiency. The car has both its original hard top and white soft top in excellent condition. The interior is clean and well maintained and both the original Ford car radio and anti-theft system, alloy wheels, LED lighting and two sets of original keys have been carefully preserved.
