THE APPEAL
The VW Golf GTI MK2 is one of the all-time hot hatch icons, with a huge following across the world.
It’s also one of the most modified cars of its era, such is the scope and breadth of the Volkswagen scene, with a huge market for both standard and well-modified examples of the car.
This one is far from standard – apart from the visual differences – the lower ride height and Golf G60 arches being the obvious giveaways, under the bonnet the original 16v engine has been ditched in favour of VW’s beefy 2.9-litre V6 “VR6” engine, as found in the Corrado and Mk3 Golf.
But this is no hotch-potch thrown-together project – it’s a beautifully executed and properly engineered car presented in fabulous overall condition.

It looks terrific and is still in outstanding condition.
It sits on red 15-inch BBS lattice alloy wheels, wider at the rear than the front, with good tyres all-round.
To give it greater presence, it also has wide G60 front arches and additional VR6 badges, yet the appearance is still stealthy and subtle. It’s a great-looking car presented in excellent condition.
There is no visible damage and the vendor reports that it is excellent underneath.

It features lowered suspension riding on FK coilovers, but not so much as to drop it to a level where speed humps are an issue.
The vendor says that it is a very quick and rewarding car to drive and is a proper installation, with no corners having been cut.
It is sold in good running order and with no known faults or running issues.
