The Appeal
Starting from the seventies, the first Golf imposed a new concept of compact, versatile and brilliant midsize car all over the world, distinguished by front-wheel drive and an attractive and modern design by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Its innovative formula would strongly influence all subsequent cars, which would imitate both its mechanics and its bodywork, equipped with a practical and ingenious tailgate.
In 1983, the second series Golf MKII introduced further innovations, presenting even more rounded and dynamic lines and larger dimensions.
In the wake of the great success of the first GTI sports version a new GTI was introduced, with a 1.8-litre engine with 112 hp, to which a 129 hp sixteen-valve engined variant was added in 1987.
In 1988 Volkswagen introduced the top-of-the-range Golf G60 version, which, thanks to a carefully tuned engine and the addition of a supercharger, offered 158 hp and truly remarkable performance for the time, with a maximum speed of 216 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in less than 8 seconds.
This Golf G60, originally sold in Switzerland and in Italy since 2002, has only had two owners since new, the first of whom kept it for 21 years, and has always been lovingly maintained with the utmost care.
The mechanics have received recent work, with new timing belt, spark plugs and compressor belt and a change of oil and oil filter.
A new stainless steel exhaust system was installed in 2023.
It features a very nice looking bodywork, made even more attractive by the well-preserved iconic original BBS wheels and flared wheel arches.
Inside we are greeted by a nice and very well-equipped interior, with beautiful leather upholstery that is almost certainly original, Recaro sports front seats in good general condition with traces of wear, a sunroof and an intact, clean and efficient dashboard.
The highly coveted Golf G60 was built in small numbers mainly due to its very high price and is one of the most loved and sought after Golfs. This pleasant looking example which clearly shows the great care it received from its previous owners is an unmissable opportunity to make your own one of the most fun, enjoyable and exciting small sports cars ever.
