1991 TVR S3

Highlights

  • The odometer displays a mere 32,579 miles which is supported by the MOT and service history
  • Presented in very good original condition and a handsome colour scheme
  • MOT valid until November 2023 with no advisories from the last inspection

The Appeal

The TVR S range was a great success for TVR, offering the performance the company was known for with an affordable price point the range launched in 1986 with much anticipation.
Introduced in 1990 the S3 saw significant revisions to the chassis and running gear. It was the TVR S everyone had fallen in love with - just better.
This S3 has clearly been well cared for throughout its life with it being stored indoors, which has contributed to the excellent original condition of its Moonraker Black paintwork. With only a shade over 30,000 on the odometer, it’s an exceptionally low mileage example that presents beautifully throughout. But condition aside, TVRs are meant to be driven and with a stiff chassis and that 2.9 V6 up front the S3 offers up a fantastic driving experience.

The History and Paperwork

  • Accompanying this vehicle are two sets of keys, Pioneer stereo owner’s manual, the original TVR owners manual, warrenty handbook and wiring diagrams relating to the wiring, fuel injection and electronic speedometer
  • V5 present and correct
  • 6 owners from new (Previousley in the same ownership for 17 years and the last two owers, a father and son combination for two years)
  • MOT valid until November 2023
  • Historic MOTs verifying the low mileage
  • Original owner’s manuals
  • A selection of previous invoices for service items

The Interior

  • Very good original condition throughout
  • Black leather with white piping lends the cabin a premium feel
  • Both seats present very well with only minor creasing
  • Adorned with leather and a veneer fascia, the dashboard is in good order with some gentle patina
  • All of the dials gauges and switches are in very good condition and work as expected
  • A small wheel makes fast-paced directional changes a breeze and the gear lever falls perfectly to hand
  • The gear knob has an area where the chrome plating has come off but this is not especially noticeable
  • The beige carpeting is in excellent condition throughout
  • The door cards, trim and inside of the of the roof all present very well
  • Boot space presents superbly and houses a spacesaver

The Exterior

  • Black really accentuates those sleek lines
  • All of the wheels present very well and are shod with Dunlop sports tyres
  • Lightweight fibreglass bodywork presents very well with no signs of crazing or any accident damage past or present
  • The paint is in really nice shape as are the ‘S3’ vinyls
  • Some minor age related marks here and there, but nothing that unduly concerns us
  • The roof, with its removable section, is in really nice shape
  • The bumpers, chrome trim and light lenses all present very well with no damage we could discern

The Mechanics

  • The combination of a lightweight body, a V6 that loves to be revved and the excellent tubular steel chassis makes for a compelling driving experience that few cars can match
  • Starts easily, settling down to a smooth and steady idle
  • The 2933cc V6 engine is very vocal through those twin stainless steel exhausts
  • Finished in red, the tubular steel chassis appears to be in excellent original condition throughout and was waxoyled in July 2012 at 21090 miles
  • The owner informs us that it drives very well; accelerating quickly, shifting smoothly and stopping in a straight line
  • Lifting the clamshell bonnet, the engine bay presents well
  • The car has recently had a new radiator, battery and rides on Dunlop Bluresponse 205/60R15 tyres fitted last year (Dunlop have constructed the Sport BluResponse with a polymer compound which provides you with better grip and handling on wet roads. The tyre also features 'Short Braking' blocks along the shoulder to aid in the reduction of braking distances.)
  • The owner informs us that the front exhaust section has been raised up, improving clearance for uk roads

Summary

Hand-made, tons of style, exciting to drive and with a distinctive sound that will quicken the pulse of any petrolhead, TVRs are hard to beat and the S3 offers a perfect blend of these features.
This S3 is in very good condition throughout and with very low mileage and a long MOT it’s ready for the open road.
This vehicle is open to any inspection and a pit is available to confirm the chassis condition and original powder-coat paintwork.
