Highlights
- Mostly stock original vehicle
- Increasingly rare car
- Meticulously maintained prior to dry storage starting in 2016
- Just in need of a mild recommissioning and it’s set for the road
The Appeal
Produced from 1983 to 1999, the Peugeot 205 was built as a replacement for the Peugeot 104; however, it was indeed destined for a much larger impact on the world of motoring. With its sleek and aggressive stance, fully independent suspension with Macpherson struts up front and torsion arms at the rear, the 205 saw great success in both European sales and importantly, success in rally racing.
The 205 GTI, released along side the other versions of the car, was Peugeot’s sporting variant. With a rev-happy 1.6l engine producing around 104 horsepower, and the vehicle weighing in just under 900kgs, it was a recipe for success. Often considered a benchmark for small and nimble hatchbacks, the 205 has also gained a cult following thanks in part to its successful homologation into Group B rally with the 205 Turbo 16, modified extensively from its road-going counterpart as we have here.
This Pug in particular is notably a one-owner vehicle, with the current owner purchasing it new in 1991. Based on the current condition of the car, it is instantly visible that the owner has loved and enjoyed the car to its fullest, but has never neglected to show it respect with routine maintenance and proper upkeep. Sporting its original interior and paintwork, this 205 remains in a highly original state from Peugeot.
The car has been dry stored since 2016, and will need only a light recommissioning before getting back on the road, as there was a full service performed in 2015, right before storage. While the car doesn’t currently run, the current owner has purchased, and will include a new fuel pump as pictured, which is the suspected culprit.

The Mechanics
- Owner states vehicle was in excellent overall working condition before dry storage, having just completed a full service very few miles ago

- Full Magnex performance exhaust system fitted, remaining in excellent condition
- Visual condition of the engine bay is overall very good, clean, and tidy with no obvious signs of corrosion present
- Original 1.6L engine presents well visually, with no signs of leaking
- The owner informs us the vehicle is an absolute pleasure to drive when running, but would suggest a brake overhaul before returning to the road in addition to replacing the fuel pump
- The car will need to be transported to its next home
Summary
This 205 would be a smart choice as an occasional B-road charmer after a light recommissioning and return to the road after its period of storage. This is the perfect opportunity to own a stunning mostly-original GTI with incredible character and racing heritage; a prime example of what is coming to be a very rare car indeed. It is just begging to be brought out and enjoyed, and after a little bit of TLC, could just as easily fit right into any Peugeot collector or rally fan’s fleet.
