The Appeal
Premiered at the 1989 Tokyo Auto Show, the Figaro was based upon the tried, tested and much-loved Nissan Micra, though the similarities ended at first glance - this was a cute, retro-styled little motor that was intended to charm the Japanese public, who were becoming increasingly affectionate towards the mid-century designs of the West.
Interest picked up quickly. 8,000 were initially built, followed by a second run of over 12,000. Such was the impressive level of demand that customers who wanted one had to enter a lottery. The British market loved them, too: many were grey imported, and a good example of a Figaro has become a hot collectable.
This example carries the 'Spring' Emerald Green colourway, and it's quite the looker. Clean, solid, and beautifully presented, it offers a great opportunity to take on one of the most curious pieces of the Japanese marque's heritage.
