The Appeal
It's that cool, elegant luxury roadster, you can’t help but admire. That perfect blend of sophistication and open top performance you can only get from a Mercedes SL. The R129 era cars were impressively advanced for their time and represented a huge leap forward for the model, and Mercedes Benz in general, boasting great improvements in design, performance and safety, whilst sticking true to the core values that made the SL a class leader in the world of luxury performance tourers.
H91 VYB is a very early, pre facelift SL500. In its wonderful Smoke Silver hue it certainly looks every part the elegant roadster, and with just over 65k on the clock, is barely run in, especially by 1990s Mercedes standards. Standing today in wonderful original order, with a thumping great factory fitted V8, this SL presents itself as an ideal collectors Mercedes with a genuine usable nature to it. Certainly it is one of the better R129s on the market today.

Summary
The R129 era SL is slowly emerging from the shadows of its R107 and W113 forbears to become in its own right, a highly desirable, collectors Mercedes. Sophisticated and elegant but at the cutting edge of automotive technology for its time, the model stands today as a genuinely usable classic Mercedes.
In its Smoke Silver splendour, this early pre facelift SL500 with just over 65 thousand miles displayed would surely make an excellent candidate for preservation over the years to come as a quality show piece, but at the same time, does lend itself quite well to more regular continued use. Whichever direction you may be thinking of taking it, this highly original luxury tourer will be more than capable of handling the task.
