The Appeal
Dubbed “The Safest Car in Britain”, brimming with innovation, and built using thoroughly modern manufacturing techniques, the XJ40 signalled the arrival of a new era for Jaguar. Work on the project began during the early ‘70s and by the time it was ready for release in 1986, the XJ40 had become the most extensively developed car Jaguar had ever produced.
Today, this generation of XJ is rightly celebrated and is a firm favourite here at Car & Classic. This 1991 Sovereign is supremely original throughout and in superb condition for its age. Its clever electronic dashboard display reads just 41,056 miles - a figure that’s warranted by the extensive service history and MOT record. The vendor points out the ten main dealer maintenance stamps followed by nine specialist stamps reportedly amounting to full service history. The advisory-free MOT runs until 19th July 2025, so this rather fine XJ Sovereign is ready to enjoy.
