The Appeal
The XJ40 was Jaguar’s first all-new car for nearly 20 years. It was a long time in the making but it was worth the wait: it cleverly blended nods to traditional Jaguar aesthetics whilst introducing advanced new technology. Consummately smooth and unruffled like a Jaguar saloon should be, its fundamental engineering remained in production well into the new Millennium.
The Sovereign was the upmarket version, borrowing its name and approach to luxury from Daimler. In 1990 the superb AJ6 unit was enlarged to 4litres to add more refinement and power.
This smart low mileage 4litre Sovereign is attractively finished in Regency Red Mica over Doeskin. Thanks to £5,000 investment by the seller since 2022 it is solid in all the places you want any XJ40 to be, including the arches and sills, and comes with a good history file and the reassurance of a long MOT.
Displaying all the reasons why these Jaguars are increasingly in demand, it looks a particularly good and well loved example.

Summary
The XJ40s engineering and architecture proved so good that they underpinned Jaguar saloons into the noughties. Serene and sumptuous, good examples are in demand with enthusiasts.
This well maintained example is certainly one of those. With more than £5,000 of work completed in Spring 2022 and few miles since, this is a nicely specified example with a reassuringly long MOT.
