The Appeal
The Alfa Romeo brand is built on a foundation of pedigree and the Spider is the very epitome of this. The Spider had been a long stay of the range, outliving the Giulia 105 models from where it bore from and kept the open-top thrills available when other manufacturers had long given up on sun-seekers. By the time the Series 4 Spider made its debut in 1990, the market had come full circle as the demand for cabriolets cars saw a resurgence.
Produced at the Pininfarina factory, the car retained its iconic styling through its 28-year reign, it sensitively treated with a facelift in 1990 as the last incarnation of the Spider. Improvements to the quality of steel, and wax-injected corrosion protection was complemented by the wrap-around bumpers, the Alfa 164 style rear lights and the installation of the fuel-injected 2.0-litre engine.
Offered exactly as it should be, without the haphazard aftermarket RHD conversion, this 1991 Series 4 car has been imported from Japan in 2016. The fitting of its original 3-speed ZF automatic gearbox, air-con unit, boot lid stop lamp and side marker lights, suggests it may have started life in the US. Since being imported to the UK it saw an extensive program of renovation and improvements, including £14,000 worth of work carried out by an Alfa Romeo specialist. Beautifully presented throughout, it comes with a hardtop, Zandar alloys and a reconditioned manual 5-speed gearbox. It has an MOT to April 2024 and has been regularly serviced.
