The Appeal

The Mk2 GTI is quickly becoming one of the most collectable real-world cars of the last 40 years. And with good reason - it took what was great about the Mk1 and made it even better. It is, unquestionably, hot hatch royalty.
All of which creates a problem. The Mk2 GTI was hugely popular in its time with an enthusiastic following. Yet original, unmodified, low mileage cars are exceptionally thin on the ground and tend to be snapped up when they hit the market.
This car is all those things. It is the 8V model which is favoured or its more immediate throttle response over the the 16V GTI. Finished in Brilliant Black and factory fitted with electric windows and BBS alloys - both still present - it has covered less than 83,000 miles in its 35 years in the hands of a mere trio of keepers. The condition is very impressive for an original, unrestored car - it is certainly at a level where it will appeal to collectors. The originality includes supplying dealer plates, window stickers and tax disc holder.
The maintenance records, which date back to when the car was new, are equally impressive. In recent years the car has been part of the vendor’s collection and sparingly used. He sent it to specialist Deutsche Autohaus to prepare it for sale in February 2025. Their work included a cambelt change and full service. The Uniroyal tyres were also fitted at the same time.
With advisory-free MOT to February 2026, this very tidy Mk2 is ready to enjoy.
