The Appeal

The 964 has proved an excellent basis for modification. You only have to look at the stunning creations by the likes of Singer and Ruf to see that this short-lived generation of 911 has so much potential to be unlocked.
Following minor front-end damage, this 1990 example was acquired from the insurance company by a professional bodywork inspector and repaired. A subsequent owner then entrusted the Porsche to renowned marque expert Gary Cook with the intention of building a hill climb car, and he rebuilt the car to the standard we see today. Intended to be used as a hill climb car by a previous owner The vendor is keen to point out that this is not an RS replica; it remains a Carrera in appearance but conforms to RS weight-saving. The car has been extensively modified both bodily and mechanically. We’re assured it’s now one very quick, fine-handling machine.
If you’re looking for a unique resto-modded ‘fast road’ 911 that’s all got potential as a weekend track/hill climb car, this 315 horsepower 964 would be a superb candidate.

The History and Paperwork

  • UK-supplied right-hand drive example
  • 81,410 miles indicated although the vendor understands the odometer unit was changed at 70-80 thousand miles
  • CAT D insurance loss for minor damage in 2007 (photographs of damage, repairs included in the sale)
  • The vendor understands that the car was purchased from the insurance company by a bodywork inspector
  • Intended to be used as a hill climb car by the previous owner
  • Rebuild entrusted to Gary Cook in 2011
  • In current ownership since 2015
  • Extensive history file with numerous invoices from new, including the original delivery letter from the supplying dealership
  • The car also comes with an invoice and details of the build for the then owner by Gary Cook in 2011
  • Well-stamped original service book (photographed)
  • The car passed its MOT first time in February 2024 and has only covered about 1,500 miles since then
  • Offered for sale as the vendor doesn’t find the time to use the car enough
  • MOT until 28th February 2025 and will be re-MOT'd prior to sale

  • Fibreglass engine lid
  • Lighter 964 Cup rear windscreen and Lexan rear quarter windows
  • The front bumper has colour-coded
  • Brake ducts fitted (as per the RS) and headlight washers deleted
  • The sunroof has been removed and the Lightweight carpet and headlining has been fitted with heavy sound deadening and rear seats removed

  • A full colour-coded, bolt-in cage by Caged Laser fitted
  • RS door cards and manual windows
  • A removable steering wheel boss is also fitted with a Momo steering wheel
  • PPF has been applied to the front bumper, wing mirrors, front of rear arches and areas of the roll cage. As the photographs show, the Porsche is very presentable inside and out, with minimal signs of wear.
  • The vendor does note that there is minor rust bubbling present in the offside lower corner of the front windscreen, and that the underside of the front bumper has damage.
  • As the photographs show, the Porsche is very presentable inside and out, with minimal signs of wear.
Despite being intended as a competition car, the fit and finish of this 911 following the rebuild and modification is very good indeed. The orange paintwork harks back to the old 2.7 RS 911s of the late 1960s while the bare carbon bonnet and body colour-matched roll cage highlight that this is a car that means business.

The Mechanics

  • 3.6-litre 315 horsepower air-cooled flat-six - (dyno printout on the file)
  • Wayne Schofield remap
  • Lightweight pistons, Cup cams, boat-tailed case and flowed heads
  • Lightweight battery and cut-off switch fitted
  • The gearbox, suspension and brakes have also been suitably upgraded
  • Short-shift gearbox, RS clutch, lightweight flywheel and KAAZ LSD
  • Brakes are 993 turbo front and 964 RS rears; a larger 993 master cylinder and servo are fitted to match, along with an adjustable bias valve
  • KW3 suspension with custom spring rates: GT2 front uprights and tie rods, front strut brace and monoball top mounts
  • RS anti-roll bars and fully poly-bushed
  • The suspension has been set-up by Centre Gravity and is currently running a track-biased setup
  • Sitting on Cup1 MM wheels and PS2 (N-rated) tyres all round; the rears have only just been replaced
  • The car also comes with two extra sets of 996 wheels, a paddle clutch (removed prior to present ownership) and spare exhaust primary and secondary silencers
That’s a mightily impressive spec list, we’re sure you’ll agree.
As an ultra-lightweight 911 on-parr with a Carrera RS, it makes the most of that Dyno-confirmed 315 horsepower from that very trick Gary Cook-built flat-six. What makes this build stand out is they didn’t stop there. The gearbox, transmission, suspension and brakes have also ben suitably upgraded, using some of the very best parts and 911 know-how in the business.
A glance at the MOT history reveals that this Porsche has sailed through its last six MOT tests with no fails or advisory items whatsoever. It’s evidently a well-sorted car, and the vendor comments that it’s driving very well indeed.
