The Appeal
In 1990, the Peugeot 205 was declared 'Car of the Decade' by CAR Magazine. It was a bonafide firebrand for the French manufacturer's distinctly conservative image. Rather than an executive saloon or a family car, the 205 was pure hot hatch gold. Perky performance, a tiny wheelbase and standard day-to-day practicality all came together to make this a new standard for decades to come.
Now, there are plenty of special editions that have become sought-after, such as the 1.9 SE. These cars were brought in to celebrate the new colours in Peugeot's palette - Miami blue and Sorrento Green. In a nice, easy, regimented move, Peugeot released the cars in nice, round numbers - 300 of each in 1.6-litre and 1.9-litre cars, respectively. That means only 300 of this spec of the car were produced - and for our money, it's the best combination of colour and capacity in this elusive selection.
This car has led a carefree existence, having covered only 93,500 miles throughout its 7 keepers - one of whom was Andrew Frankel of Autocar fame. He must have been pretty fond of it - the car appeared as a cover star on both Octane and Autocar magazine.
Plenty of work, amounting to £8,000, has been completed - ranging from new parts to a full paint correction, topped off with Fenylab ceramic coating. Put simply, you've got an utterly superb 205 in front of you. Don't let it slip you by!
