The Appeal
Before the recent reboot, the A610 was the last of a brilliant line of Alpine sports cars, a viscerally capable and crisply styled rear-engined supercar that was more than capable of competing with the all-conquering 911.
Yet these were rare cars, sales not helped by confusing branding that saw them called Renaults when they were really Alpines. The one you wanted when they were new - and the same applies now - was this one, the grunty V6 Turbo with the 2.5L version of the torquey PRV V6, good for over 200bhp.
This 1989 car arrived in the UK in 1995 and has passed through just five keepers since. It has been used regularly, the last service occurring in June 2023 with just 5 miles covered since. A recent MOT expired in June 2024, giving the buyer a useful ready-reckoner on condition and work required. The history file can be measured in inches, as the photos show.
The car is a running project with aged but complete bodywork. The well-preserved interior looks like it would respond well to a weekend of elbow grease.
For the right buyer this looks like an interesting and relatively straightforward project. You get a rare and rewarding 911 alternative to enjoy at the end of it.
“The car is generally sound, it needs to be resprayed, and the headlining is missing. It runs well but hasn't been used on the road for a number of years. In my view it is a really good looking car and a modern classic. I inherited the car and sadly don't have the time to bring her back to good condition. I will be sorry to see her go.”
