The Appeal

Porsche’s 944 is rapidly gaining a reputation for being a fantastic entry level sports car and a fine modern classic. With that robust longitudinal four-cylinder engine and handsome styling, it’s easy to see why.
This fine-looking example has been treated to an extensive mechanical refurbishment, a minor cosmetic restoration, and is presented in very good condition. With an interesting history and an MOT until March 2023, it’s the perfect car for anyone after a smart daily classic or a car that just needs a few finishing touches.

The History and Paperwork

The Interior

  • Black vinyl upholstery with pinstriped fabric seat faces - overall in good condition, with some fabric tears to the front seats
  • Black carpets with rubber overmats, presented well with no notable damage
  • Electrically operated seats, windows, mirrors and sunroof
  • New double-din head unit with radio, Aux, USB, hands-free phone and satellite navigation
  • New speakers fitted
  • Some small cracks to the dash top and some loose trim on the driver’s door card
  • The vendor tells us the central locking remote does not work
  • New fabric fitted to the passenger seat base, some new dash trim, new boot seal, dash clock repaired
  • Boot in nice condition, with black carpet, retractable luggage cover, spare wheel, toolkit and jack

The Exterior

  • Finished in smart Guards Red, overall in very good condition with some minor blemishes
  • Bodywork looks well, with no major issues
  • Minor bubbling to the off-side front wing and near-side rear quarter, some light paint peel on the front edge of the sunroof
  • The sills and wings have had some repairs carried out to them
  • New indicators have been fitted, and the pop-up lights function well
  • The original 15” alloy wheels have been refurbished, but the vendor tells us that the tyres will need to be replaced soon
  • Underneath, the car looks very straight and solid, with no evidence of damage or corrosion we could observe

The Mechanics

  • Comprehensive mechanical rebuild undertaken during current ownership
  • 2.7-litre 4-cylinder engine given a full top-end rebuild
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • New water pump, new pulleys, all new belts and gaskets throughout
  • New radiator, all fluids and filters, fuel lines, HT leads and intake pipe
  • Rebuilt power steering pump and new power steering lines
  • Engine bay presents very well, in extremely tidy and clean condition
  • Braking system overhauled with new discs, pads, shoes, ABS pumps, rebuilt calipers and new lines all round
  • New rear shocks, new bump stops and covers
  • All work carried out by the vendor, some spares included in the sale
  • The vendor tells us that the car is in excellent mechanical order, accelerating, braking and handling as it should

Summary

Having been restored to excellent mechanical order and a good standard cosmetically, this 944 would be the perfect car for anyone after a smart modern classic. With a few finishing touches cosmetically, this would soon be a very nice car indeed. For a 33 year old car, it presents very well indeed. We think it’s something of a treasure, and we’re sure the new owner is going to enjoy many years of joyous motoring.
