The Background

Porsche introduced the 928 in 1978 intending it to be a replacement to the 911, yet whilst that never happened the 928 found it’s own special place in the prestigious car makers lineup.
Winning car of the year in 1978 in part thanks to its revolutionary design that was highly futuristic at the time, the 928 garnered much praise from launch and only got better with time. Porsche revised the 928 several times over the fourteen years that it was in production.
This version, the S4, featured several improvements over previous iterations including the new 5.0L v8 that featured twin cam heads providing a significant boost to power all the way up to 316bhp and adding a ton of low end torque.

There were also a range of aesthetic changes to bring the car into the 90’s, all of this has made the S4 a much sought after car that has grown a solid reputation as one of the all time classic GTs. Now appreciating in value the 928 has become a much sought after car and good examples can be hard to come by.

The History

The current owner purchased the car in 2018 from a nearby friend who is also a fellow 928 enthusiast, who missed this one so much he has bought another!

The previous owner (who is a Porsche club regional organiser) had carried out extensive work before selling the car to the current owner, the invoices for which are included in the paperwork.

The current owner has reluctantly decided to sell this gorgeous 928 as they have a selection of other cars and are running out of space.

The Paperwork

This 928 has been well cared for and that is reflected in the paperwork that comes with the car. There are invoices for all of the services with those from the current and previous owner all carried out by specialist Porsche garages.

There is also the workshop manual (split into two volumes due to the size!), the electrical manual, the original sales brochure, the original owners manual and a certificate of authenticity.

The care taken with maintaining and organising the paperwork is representative of the care taken with the car more generally, with everything being in great condition.

The Interior

The interior is in very good condition throughout. The black leather seats with red piping show little wear for the age and mileage, and the dashboard, headlining and carpets are all in similarly good condition. The only non original part is the aftermarket stereo.
The 928 provides an exceptional interior that was far ahead of its time. With fully motorised seats and digital display for information such as MPG the 928 set a new standard for interior options.

The seats are deep and comfortable and will hold you in place for those more enthusiastic cornering moments and combined with thick carpeting the interior provides a luxuriant driving experience perfect for longer touring.

The Exterior

The exterior is in very good overall condition and has obviously benefitted from being kept garaged. All four wheels are also in very good condition as is the trim and all of the window seals, therefore the car presents very well overall.

Finished in red with long flowing lines this 928 is sure to make an impression wherever it goes.

The Mechanics

The mechanics of this 928 appear to be spot on, with everything working as it should and visually in very good condition.

Furthermore the car has been kept garaged and amongst other things the owner has had the following work carried out: gearbox rebuild, new fuel lines, running lights relay fitted, parking sensors fitted (colour matched) and a new battery. All of the services have been carried out  at the recommended intervals including major service components such as the cam belt.
The car springs to life with a satisfying rumble from the v8 on a turn of the key and pulls smoothly. The underside appears to be in good condition with no rust visible anywhere we could see (928s have galvanised chassis and aluminium panels so are not prone to rust anyway) and the engine bay is immaculate especially for the age and mileage.

The Appeal

As an appreciating supercar the 928 offers unparalleled driving experience for the money. With a surprisingly roomy four seater interior the 928 makes for a fantastic tourer and this S4 benefits from all of the improvements that Porsche made during production.

With a big 5.0L V8 this 928 is no slouch, with a sub six second 0-60 and happily pulling all the way up to the top speed of 168mph. But don’t be fooled by the raw power, the 928 S4 holds the road in a vice like grip, its handling is remarkable for a front engined car of this generation and combined with the fantastic engine it makes for an exceptional driving experience that you’ll love.
With an extensive history and all recent servicing carried out by Porsche specialists, this car is in great condition both aesthetically and mechanically. With MOT until September this 928 is ready for the road and for you to enjoy.
This 928 looks particularly fetching in red and with a handsome v8 that would put a smile on the face of any petrolhead, it’s a car that's hard not to love. If you’re looking for a fantastic driving experience, or are a true Porsche aficionado don’t hesitate, ones this good don’t come up very often.
