The Appeal

Porsche cut its teeth on rear-engined, air-cooled boxer-engined sports cars. The 928 was something completely different; a luxurious grand tourer with a front-mounted, water-cooled V8 that was supposed to replace the 911. Ultimately, we’re glad Porsche didn’t pull the plug on its flat-six stalwart, but we’re equally glad it gave us the 928 as well.
This 1989 example is the ultra-rare GT, a high-performance variant of the 928 produced between 1989 and 1991. The GT had 330 horsepower, a five-speed ‘dog-leg’ manual gearbox, and unique alloy wheels. While there’s some debate over exactly how many were made, it’s often cited that just 1,626 GTs were produced out of over 60,000 928s, of which only around twenty per cent had manual gearboxes.
A special car indeed, and this one’s a great example, as the photographs show. Resplendent in complementary black over black, this Porsche is in very good condition for its age, and the vendor assures us that it drives superbly. A great deal of money has been spent in recent years with marque specialists, ensuring this sophisticated grand tourer has received the level of maintenance a car of this calibre deserves. Complete with a long MOT and offered with a private registration, this 928 GT is ready to enjoy.
