The Appeal
Timeless, elegant styling, robust drivelines and of course untold levels of engineering quality. Could it be anything other than a 1980s Mercedes? The marque’s flagship roadster, the SL, fell perfectly for buyers looking for an effortlessly classy luxury sports convertible that lacked the brash, imposing aura that came with many of its market competitors.
Throughout the years and generations the SL has been a market leader and a benchmark for quality luxury roadsters, but perhaps the most sought after and usable of them all at present is the infamous R107 era SL.
Throughout the years and generations the SL has been a market leader and a benchmark for quality luxury roadsters, but perhaps the most sought after and usable of them all at present is the infamous R107 era SL.
Demand for these cars is seemingly on an endless upward trend and currently the one to go for in the lineup is the 300sl, seen as the perfect midpoint in the R107 lineup, mixing performance with genuine usability, longevity and economy.
This 1987 300sl comes to us in a wonderful specification, well presented both mechanically and aesthetically, it really is a great usable example of the now legendary model.
