BACKGROUND
The Land Rover Defender has earned its place in motoring history and summons the respect and nostalgia it deserves from all four corners of the planet.
Rugged and capable of going across virtually any terrain, they have now truly become a timeless motoring icon that are well sought after in their many guises and forms.
One of the rarer models was the 110 County, fitted with the super smooth 3.5 litre V8 petrol engine and 9 seats. Some wealthy owners bought most of these as an alternative to a Range Rover to work around large estates and take up to nine people around the grounds to carry out various duties, the V8 delivering a totally different and more refined drive than the diesel alternatives on offer from Land Rover.023.jpg2.55 MB
HISTORY
This lovely original 110 County was bought when it was 6 years old and put to work on a large country estate, where it remained for the next 18 years being maintained and looked after by resident engineers and mechanics.
It was then bought in 2014 by the previous keeper who, during the last 6 years, has spent a considerable amount of money doing light restoration work and maintenance. Since 2006 it has covered a mere 14,100 miles.
In recent months it has been freshened up with a respray in its original colour and a thorough valet.050.jpg1.71 MB
PAPERWORK
The vendor has had a fresh MOT completed and this expires in July 2022.
The V5 is present showing 3 previous owners and there are numerous MOT’s and receipts for repairs and servicing done by the present and previous keeper.
The whole original interior looks in very good condition when considering the car’s age. The headlining is clean and fresh, having been completely reupholstered and there are just a couple of splits in the backing to the rear seats but otherwise all the cloth upholstery is in near excellent condition.
All the floors are solid and the dashboard and door trims all look good, except for a few lumps and bumps on the door trims probably caused by shutting the doors on the seat belt buckles.
All the gauges and instruments work as they should and the steering wheel has a nicely worn patina of age and use.093.jpg2.79 MB
EXTERIOR
The exterior has benefitted from its recent re-spray and our impression is that of a clean and solid original car.
There are a few small imperfections in the bodywork but nothing that should cause any real concern. The side steps have been renewed and the matching painted wheels have also been refurbished and fitted with new tyres.
All the lights and glass are nice and clear and the black bumpers and all rubber seals look in fine shape too.
If you look closely around the rear door hinges there is some slight bubbling of paint, otherwise the bodywork presents very well.
The usual anodizing of the paint at the bottom of the aluminium doors which is common on all Land Rovers has been halted by the recent re-spray.
The bull bar was removed for the re-painting and is included in the sale but it has currently not been refitted. New County decals for the rear will also be included.
The underneath was wax-oiled by the previous owner six years ago. Evidently, this car has been cared for and maintained for the long-term.
Open the bonnet and you’ll find everything as it should be, with no signs of any oil or coolant leaks. A new distributor cap and ignition leads have also been recently fitted.
Mechanically the engine and gearbox are both very healthy and reflect the relatively low mileage and regular maintenance schedule that the car has enjoyed. A recent service has also been completed.070.jpg2.32 MB
THE APPEAL
There are many reasons that this car will appeal to any Land Rover or motoring enthusiast. Its provenance, originality, its overall condition, its rarity, its V8 engine, its 9 seats, its manual gearbox, its low mileage or maybe it’s just the way it looks. Whatever the reason or reasons, this car ticks all the right boxes and is sure to delight the next lucky owner.
