The Background
The Jaguar XJ-S was in production from 1975 to 1996 in various forms and engine options with several styling facelifts of that same period too.
The full Jaguar built XJ-S Convertible was introduced in 1988 after the Targa top version had not won many fans but unlike the Targa version the full convertible was a big hit and sold in decent numbers.
Later in the line up they added the V12 and boom an instant classic.

The History
The owner has had this car for a few short years and unfortunately it doesn’t get as much use as it should so he has decided to let her go.
The car had a body restoration a few years ago including the fitting of a new hood and headlining so is in lovely condition.
There is also a healthy service history with this vehicle.

The Paperwork
The car comes with the normal V5 and receipts for works carried out. There are receipts for the pretty much brand new mohair hood , headlining and tonneau cover.
There are a healthy number of service stamps from Jaguar dealers or specialists throughout the cars life with the last one being 2019 since then due to Covid the car has covered circa 500 miles. Just as important however, the history file contains a current MOT so you know that things have been thoroughly checked over and that the car is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian!
There are manuals for original stereo system that the owner has sourced and partially reinstated , the cd changer needs connecting. There is also a workshop instruction manual.

The Interior
The cream leather in this XJS is lovely, it’s a really nice place to be and has the classic Jaguar smell. The combination of wood veneer and leather gives the luxurious feel and that huge steering wheel is almost a Jaguar signature.
The headlining was renewed as part of the new hood fitting only a few years ago.
There are a few minor imperfections to mention, the drivers side heated seat is intermittent and the passenger side is currently not functioning. The drivers side seat bolster area is a common place for wear and has some discoloration but no rips or tears.
In the boot the car has the original spare wheel cover and carpets and also the original tool kit.

The Exterior
The car was repainted circa 2018 in the previous owners hands and due to the lack of use since it still looks fantastic. As mentioned, the car also received a brand new mohair hood and tonneau cover at this time.
The wheels were refurbed and are still without fault and the car comes with 5 matching wheels and 5 matching tyres.
The drivers side quarter light window works and operates up and down but will need some adjustment to fully close.

The Mechanics
The V12 is silky smooth as it should be and the gearbox changes without fault. The lovely burble the car produces as you waft along wind in your hair is one of life’s true pleasures.
The car starts, stops and runs as it should and doesn’t have any odd noises.

The Appeal
Well cats and kittens, what’s the big appeal in this particular big cat? Recent body restoration and little use since means the paintwork is stunning. New hood fabric and wheel refurb, 5 matching tyres of premium brand and one of Jaguars best engines under the bonnet. What's not to like?
It’s a big beautiful old cruiser this, in great condition for something of its age so if you're in the market for a classic convertible that is just that little bit more special than the rest, this could be worth a look!
