The Appeal
With its digital dashboard Vauxhall’s Kamm-tailed Astra Mk2 GTE was the discerning alternative to Ford’s more blue collar XR3. The four seat convertible was even designed and built by none other than Bertone.
Just 6,764 were completed and only 167 remain registered in the UK. Of those, just 21 are on the road. Here is a very early one, a 115bhp 8V classically finished in the model’s signature white.
It is a very low mileage car that has been meticulously cared for by its two registered keepers. The current one bought it in 2010 and commissioned an extensive, professional restoration that prioritised factory-correct originality. The result is a car that shows exactly why the Mk2 GTE was so beloved of period hot hatch enthusiasts. From that fully working high tech dashboard to the white alloy wheels, this great example is a fully immersive 80s experience.
This car has the makings of one of the best of the handful of remaining GTE convertibles. With demand for 80s classics on the rise, this one not to miss.
