It's no secret that Americans love the V8, better still, a really big one. Mercedes-Benz knew this, and if its R107 SL was to compete stateside, there would need to be some gargantuan eight-bangers in the range. While most markets made do with a 5.0-litre V8 at the top of the range, American SLs could be ordered with a 5.6-litre powerplant. The strategy worked, earning the R107 the nickname "the German Corvette" in some circles.
Here we have a US spec 560 SL which is remarkably original for its age. In fact, we're informed it was still in factory paint when the vendor acquired it - but the ravages of direct sunlight prompted a partial respray. It has also received a new soft top and seat covers, greatly lifting its appearance along with the switch to EU-spec headlamps.
We're informed that the SL passed Polish technical inspection in May 2024 without any issues and the vendor tells us it has been fully serviced ready for its next owner.IMG_8277.JPG4.53 MB
