The Appeal

The 420 Si is among the rarest, most well-appointed and desirable variants of the long-lived BiTurbo model. Maserati built it exclusively for the European market to rival the BMW E30 3 Series, something the 420 Si would never quite achieve in terms of sales, but more than made up for in style, performance and luxury.

It's believed that just 524 examples were ever made, of which only 24 came in this high factory specification with power steering and an electric sunroof. You'll note that this BiTurbo is also equipped with electric front windows, front seats, boot/petrol cap release, door mirrors and sunroof. Features also included a dog-leg manual gearbox, climate control, Alcantara upholstery, a signed Nardi steering wheel, full interior wood trimming, Swiss-made gold clock, air horns and Borrani alloy wheels which were made bespoke for the car at point of purchase (with invoice to prove). That's quite a spec list, especially for a car made in 1988!

We're assured that the Maserati remains entirely original, even down to the factory Nero paintwork, which has undergone recent correction work in order to look its best. But wait, it gets better...

What truly sets this car apart is its history. Originally purchased by the current owner's father, this Maserati has remained in the same family since new. Imported into the UK in 2019 by the current owner who is in the same family, the car has since undergone extensive recommissioning after being securely dry-stored in Italy for many years. Accompanying the car is a vast collection of original documents including the original purchase order, the original bill of sale, the original leather-bound book pack and much, much more besides.

Since arrival in the UK, the 420 Si has undergone a great deal of recommissioning work and the vendor notes that it now drives like a new car.

The vendor remarks:

"It's a unique example due to its condition and history. A limited edition from the factory, optioned with a Nardi wooden steering wheel and Borrani Milan wire wheels, plus the only two options available when new like the electric sunroof and power steering only installed on 24 vehicles of the Si series. It's a a monster on the road!"
