The Appeal
With its distinctive pinstriped seats and sports steering wheel, the Fiesta XR2 was Ford’s characterful entry into the booming hot hatch market of the 1980s.
Powered by the proven 1.6-litre Ford CVH engine, it wasn’t as technologically advanced as rivals such as the VW Golf GTI and Peugeot 205 GTi, but it was easy to maintain, modify and own and – thanks to the Blue Oval badge – was an instant icon.
Like all fast Fords, XR2s have shot up in value in recent years, which makes this example a great find. Imported from Portugal in 2021, the XR2 comes from a climate where rust isn’t the problem it is in the UK and it shows, with excellent bodywork and no signs of evident corrosion – a huge plus.
The left-hand-drive car has had just one UK owner and has an MOT valid until December 2023.

Summary
Good XR2s are getting harder and harder to find, especially those that haven’t succumbed to body corrosion or have needed major restoration.
This one, though, is a really good one with no known problems – it’s largely original, very smart and the minor modifications that have been carried out can be easily reversed should you wish to turn it into a very smart and original car to take on the busy Ford show circuit. It’s a rare and exciting opportunity to buy one of the most sought-after hot hatches of its era.
