Highlights

  • Very tidy and original top specification Daimler
  • Low mileage for year of only 98,000
  • Only three registered keepers from new
  • Extensive service history with 21 stamps to 96,471 miles
  • Great example of these highly regarded V12 cars

The Appeal

To secure success in the crucial V8-obsessed American market Jaguar developed a V12, the extra cylinders seemingly the only way to achieve the smoothness that the firm desired.
It was a wise choice, delivering an engine so good and so enduring that it powered the XJ through into the 1990s. To satisfy demand the firm even kept the original Series 3 XJ in production after the arrival of the XJ40.
These final cars are popular with collectors for that engine and because they benefit from the quality improvements introduced by Jaguar head honcho John Egan. The Daimler-badged cars, like this one, got better leather, a higher specification and more chrome.
Beautifully finished in what appears to be Satin Beige metallic, it is a particularly well kept car that has recently emerged from storage. The cabin is in such great shape that you can almost smell the wood and leather through the photographs.
It is a low mileage car that has been cared for by its mere three registered keepers. The service book has a run of 21 stamps to 96,471 miles. The car is now on 98,065. Due to sparing use since 2009 it would likely be improved by a check over and service. This is a lovely example of the sort of sumptuous motor that car firms no longer make, but perhaps should.

The History and Paperwork

  • First UK registered 30th November 1988
  • Chassis records confirm this car was built late in 1988
  • It carries the correct ‘SAJ’ prefix applied to Daimlers by the factory after April 1987
  • Three registered keepers from new
  • Factory handbooks set in good condition
  • Factory tool kit in hard plastic case
  • Service book with 21 stamps to 96,471 miles in June 2009
  • Last MOT expired 30th June 2021 with 97,801 miles showing on test and minor advisories
  • Car has been little used but regularly MOT’d since 2009
  • We understand that the car has been in storage since the last MOT test

The Condition

  • Smart bronze paintwork which appears to be factory Satin Beige metallic
  • Paintwork is very well kept across panels and roof with few signs of age
  • Due to the age and originality of the car buyers should anticipate some age related marks
  • Bodywork presents in very good condition particularly to sills and arches, common XJ6 weaknesses
  • Exterior fittings including chrome and bumpers all in very good condition with no obvious deterioration
  • Sits on optional ‘GKN’ alloy wheels which are in very good condition with few marks
  • Quality Firestone tyres in good order although buyers should note advisories on last MOT
  • We suspect that those MOT advisories for tyres have been rectified but buyers may wish to confirm with seller
  • Underside presents well in photographs but buyers should note advisory on last MOT
  • Very smart interior with uprated Daimler leather trim and veneers
  • Cabin shows few signs of wear to commonly used areas such as driver’s seat and footwell
  • Leather has light signs of creasing to front seats but not unsightly and no noticeable colour wear
  • Dashboard veneers show light signs of delamination but not unsightly or untypical of age
  • Luxury Daimler specification includes individually sculpted rear seat with headrests and sunroof
  • Headlining presents as tidy and clean with no noticeable sagging

The Mechanics

  • 5,343cc fuel injected V12 engine
  • 3spd automatic gearbox
  • 21 service stamps to 96,471 miles and now showing 98,065 miles
  • Due to passing of time and limited use the buyer should anticipate a service and check over
  • No reported running or driving issues advised by seller
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on last MOT
