The Appeal
Produced between 1984 and 2002, the Fourtrak was Daihatsu’s flagship off-roader, produced to compete against the likes of Land Cruiser. Being the highest specification Fourtrak available, this TDX model boasts a longer wheelbase, wider arches, and is capable of seating 7 passengers.
The Fourtrak is also regarded as a highly capable little vehicle, with an impressive towing capacity of 3.5 tons, which truly is remarkable for its size.

Whether you’re looking for your next off-roader project, family commuter, or a workhorse to tow with, this Daihatsu should be your first choice.
The History and Paperwork
- MOT until January 2023
- Well maintained
- V5C document present
This Fourtrak has no doubt been enjoyed over the years, having now covered 112,175 miles. If you’re familiar with Japanese vehicles and diesel reliability, you’ll be well aware that this little Daihatsu has plenty of life left in it, and will no doubt continue to be a trusty companion on, or indeed off-road for years to come.
The Interior
- Original interior
- Blaupunkt head unit
- Mul-T-Lock gear lock
- Great condition
The interior of this Fourtrak is in excellent condition for its age, showing only a few signs of wear. The majority of the wear throughout the cabin can be found with the driver’s seat, although the minor bolster wear hardly detracts from the comfort of function. Passenger seats, on the other hand, appear to have seldom been sat in, showing far fewer signs of use.
Carpeting throughout the car would definitely benefit from thorough detail, as would the headlining. Otherwise, the interior is a rather pleasant space to find yourself, further enhanced by the likes of a Blaupunkt head unit, and a Mul-T-Lock unit for further security.
The Exterior
- Original exterior
- TDX styling features
- 15”x7” alloys
This Daihatsu shows off what is believed to be its original finish, complete with its TDX model-specific wide arches and wider wheels. Although the majority of the blue paintwork looks rather impressive, due to the age of the vehicle, there are of course defects to be noted. Perhaps most notable are areas of lacquer peeling, minor bubbling, and of course the more noticeable corrosion to the front bumper.
All exterior details and trim pieces follow suit, retaining their original finish and subsequently now showing minor signs of age. All wheels, on the other hand, are in great condition for their age, with the fitted four sporting Hifly all-terrain tyres with enough tread for the new owner to enjoy on, or indeed off the road.
Overall, this Fourtrak sits in an age-appropriate state, presenting itself ready to be used off the road without much worry for minor defects to the exterior. After all, the vehicle’s practicality is where it truly shines.
The Mechanics
- 2765cc turbo-diesel
- 4WD with low range
- Drives brilliantly
- Impressive towing capacity
The Fourtrak truly is somewhat deceiving at first glance, with most road users expecting the little Daihatsu to have about as much power as a microwave, but that’s where they’re wrong. Equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder, these off-roaders have more than enough torque on tap to impress. As a result, you’ll find these characterful vehicles to be popular with those seeking great towing capability.
Buyers will be pleased to know that this particular example fires up right away, and performs without a single known fault. No doubt benefitting from years of maintenance, this turbo-charged beast is ready to tackle pretty much anything you throw at it, using its clever four-wheel-drive system and low-range gearing to its advantage.
Summary
This Daihatsu Fourtrak presents buyers with excellent value-for-money, offering incredible off-road capability, impressive passenger and towing capacity, as well as iconic Japanese 80’s styling.
Whether you’re looking to tackle the mud, fancy a new daily driver, or a workhorse to tow with, this Fourtrak will no doubt continue to impress for many years to come.
