The Background
The BMW convertible E30 is a second-generation car of the award winning 3 series luxury saloons built between 1982 & 1994.
It was designed utilising the time-honoured sporty layout of front engine rear wheel drive, continued within the 3 series cars of today.
Offered with a range of engine options from four & six cylinder petrols, to six cylinder turbo charged diesels.
Aimed at aspiring professionals seeking a performance, and stylish means of transport in a wide range of specifications.
The History
This 325i was first registered on the 1st of April 1988, by supplying dealers Ian Anthony of Bolton, Lancs.
It would appear to have not really strayed too far from its hometown, as service stamps include Bolton, Blackpool, Rochdale & Blackburn so a bit of a home bird.
Used by the current owner only on high days & holidays, he has however concentrated his efforts into making this convertible all the better for passing through his ownership.
The Paperwork
There is a V5c in the current owners name, the original BMW supplied service book ( see photos ), BMW handbook & various receipts for recent work carried out.
The Interior
The interior of this 325i appears to be factory spec as it was upon first registration. It doesn’t appear to have been modified or messed about with and has been very well looked after throughout its life.
Seats are all almost spotless as are the carpets which we assume are all original. Plastics are all virtually unmarked, seat backs, door cards and dash all looking in excellent condition with out visible scratches and signs of use.
The boot too is very clean and tidy, still carrying the toolbox inside the boot lid complete with tools.
Nothing looks out of place in this car which hopefully is reflected in the photos & the vendor states that all electrics work as expected.
The Exterior
Very desirable red paintwork is in excellent condition all round. There are however small bubbles on the front of both rear wheel arches which may at times need attention. The vendor says they have been that way for a number of years and not changed in his ownership although he wanted them pointed out. There are also a couple of surface scratches on the boot which are extremely shallow and may well be removed by careful polishing.
Apart from these very small blemishes, the rest of the car’s paintwork is superb, with all bumpers & external trim looking great too.
All 5 alloy wheels were recently refurbished to a high standard in 2020 with new tyres all round less than 1000 miles ago.
The hood is in excellent condition and the rear Perspex screen has recently been replaced.
Overall, this BMW’s exterior is well cared for and will continue to look this way should the new owner treat it as well as the current one.
The Mechanics
When driven and moved around for the photoshoot, the 6-cylinder motor in this BMW was as smooth as silk.
It has only recently (2020 ) had a full top end rebuild and sounds as a six cylinder engine should , throaty.
We’re told by the vendor that the auto gearbox is also in fine fettle, changing up & down the box with ease and that there are no knocks from suspension components.
Certainly, well serviced, with history to back this up.
The Appeal
As usable classics go, the E30 is hard to beat. Timeless looks coupled with famously strong mechanicals and that glorious 6 cylinder soundtrack, make this an opportunity not to be missed.
The sparkling chrome and beautifully rich red paintwork make this a car that will turn heads wherever you go, but the ability to hear that throaty 6 cylinder symphony in the top down amphitheatre experience is what makes this such a wonderful car.
Finding a better example will not be easy.
