The Appeal
With its characterful proportions, spirited performance and ever-enduring 'best of British' persona, it's of little surprise that the Mini continues to sit comfortably as one of the most successful classics in history. Beyond that, though, it's utterly perfect for modification and 'souping up' into a car well beyond its austere means.
This particular 1988 Clubman-nosed example has been thoroughly upgraded. It's now powered by a Peugeot 106 GTi engine, with a meticulously restored shell, 6-point roll cage, a fanciful RAF-style livery and a whole host of new parts. The result is an attractive, imposing and fiercely capable little car that defies all expectation - loaded with character and eminently drivable.

The Mechanics
- Powered by a 1.6-Litre Peugeot 106 GTi engine
- Manual transmission with 5 gears
- Fully stainless steel exhaust system with a DTM muffler
- Aluminium radiator
- Entirely rebuilt, every component restored or replaced
- Front subframe is entirely new
- Rear subframe has been completely restored, including poly bushes
- Two improvements are recommended by the vendor:
- Custom driveshafts needed to solve vibrations during acceleration (current modified 106/Mini driveshafts aren't balanced) costing £300-400
- ECU remap or standalone ECU needed to stop engine occasionally throttling back to 1,800 RPM
- We've no reports of any other mechanical issues or faults
The vendor says:
It turns heads (in a good way). It feels like a new car inside, and feels exciting to get into and drive. It's completely unique so there's always a conversation to be had with passers by or other enthusiasts. It's a great platform to make your own impression on if you don't like any aspect of the build.
