The Background
Rolls Royce, a byword for ultimate luxury, introduced the new Silver Spirit in 1980, a time when every feature being powered was rare this had electric everything coupled with the finest craftsmanship and best materials. It was already luxurious, but for those wanting even more room in the back, the long wheel base version, the Silver spur, was released.
The Series one model ran until 1989. Based on the previous platform, its exterior design carrying over styling cues from the Silver Shadow with bodywork from Pressed Steel who had manufactured car bodies for much of the British car industry since the 1920s, and used the 6.75 litre V8 coupled to a three speed automatic.

The History
Supplied new by Hadley Green Garage Ltd in August 1987, it was serviced and maintained by them for the first few years, with the dealer taking car of small and large tasks from oil changes to new struts in 1990 and even replacing the windscreen at a cost of £843 - no Autoglass and insurance cover here!
In recent years the car has been in the care of Belgravia Garage in London who have investigated and solved a non start issue and the car is believed to be running well.
The Paperwork
The bulk of the paperwork is from the car’s early years, when it was maintained in a money no object fashion, as you might expect from a car of this value, most work being carried out by the selling Rolls Royce and Bentley dealer in London
The Interior
Furnished in typical Rolls Royce opulence, soft hand stitched hide and deep pile carpet sit alongside heavy chrome the fine wood inserts.
The cream leather seats are in superb condition, not showing signs of wear or age, and the leather of the door cards is also in fine shape, as it the dark blue hide on the steering wheel and the carpets are virtually unmarked.
Walnut veneer inserts decorate the dash and door tops. The is some lacquer peel here on the drivers door and chip to the glove box door. The front seat backs of course have the fold out tray tables, leather backed and wooden topped, they look like they have never been used.
In car audio is the top of the line for the late ‘80s with a Blaupunkt Toronto radio cassette sitting above a separate CD player and a graphic equaliser. Backing it all up is a BQA160 amplifier hidden in the boot.
The Exterior
Finished in dark metallic blue, the car looks very elegant as the colour shows its shape at its the best. Over all the paint is in very good condition and there are very few stone chips around the front, and no obvious signs of corrosion. There is however, a scuff on the nearside rear door and some chips the the near side rear wing around the fuel cap and tail light.
The chrome work is of the highest quality and so looks extremely good, big heavy door handles and brightwork inserts in the bumpers are very smart, and the imposing grill and iconic flying lady mascot are smooth and shiny. The stainless hubcaps look very presentable and the car is shod in Avon rubber.
Mechanics
The engine bay looks clean and clear with no outward signs of fluid leaks from from the engine or the mineral oil brake and suspension system.
In 2019 the car suffered a non start issue which was traced to the gear selector unit, so that was replaced with a refurbished part and the car has functioned correctly since then.
The appeal
There is a glamour and mystique that surrounds Rolls Royce that no other luxury marque really captures. This period of car captures the classic Rolls look and mixes in modern creature comforts. Every drive in a Spur is an event and today there is good parts and specialist back up and a friendly and welcoming enthusiast community.
