The Appeal
By the late 1980s, the the Range Rover had evolved from a more car-like alternative to a Land Rover to the beginnings of the very first luxury icon it has become today, marking the model’s evolution into a vehicle for aspirational social climbers – a theme very much in keeping with its time.
It was in 1984 when the Range Rover really started moving up in the world, when an automatic gearbox and leather upholstery became available. A 1986 facelift introduced a plastic grille with pedestrian safety in mind and an optional valance with twin fog lights, along with many other subtle improvements, which continued apace as the Range Rover’s luxury stature increased.
It’s no surprise, then, to find that good ones are highly prized collectors’ cars these days – especially those equipped with electronic fuel injection, which are far more reliable than the earlier carburettor-fed models. This one is a lovely example, having recently undergone extensive recommissioning with a respected classic car specialist to bring it up to a high standard.
Finished in stylish Cypress Green, which is one of the most sought-after colours for a Vogue, it’s the perfect spec –with desirable “teddy bear” velour trim, body-coloured alloy wheels and a fog lamp front valance giving it an upmarket air and an unmistakably Eighties vibe.
The car has just passed an MOT and is sold in full working order, as a generally excellent example that has had all required welding carried out, a fresh coat of paint and a very tidy interior, with new headlining and a fair amount of history.
