The Appeal
One of the finest sports cars of the era? It could very easily be argued.
A faster, more comfortable and more equipped evolution of the 924, the Porsche 944 holds a respectable position in the eyes of collectors today and makes an excellent case for front engined Porsche ownership, courtesy of its punchy 2.5 litre engine and impeccable handling setup.
With its striking quintessentially 1980s wedge derived styling and vibrant Guards Red paintwork, this 1986 example is a wonderful presentation of the esteemed model, still standing in good order from both a mechanical and aesthetic perspective it holds excellent potential to become a stand out show piece bound to turn heads.

The Condition
- A thoroughly presentable example both inside and out
- Highly desirable Guards Red exterior paintwork
- Complimenting timeless black interior colour scheme
- Paint is of a good standard throughout with some light marking commensurate with age making itself apparent
- Interior switchgear and plastics are in fine fettle and have clearly worn their miles well
- A light patina can be said to be seen within the interior with minor signs of age and wear visible on some upholstery and trim panels however this is an entirely well preserved car
- Desirable Porsche script seating in the front and rear, in good well presented form
- The car sits proudly on four wonderful Porsche teledial alloy wheels, often argued to be the most sought after wheelset for the 944
- Removable sunroof
- Upgraded Pioneer head unit with removable faceplate
- Electric windows though it should be noted that the passenger window is not currently functioning via use of the switch
- There appears to be some cracking visible on the sill cover of the car most notable on the n/s/r segment
- Exterior trim is in great shape, with quality badging, external lighting and glass work including the hinged rear tailgate panel
- Immobiliser system installed
- Pop up headlights still in good functioning form
The Mechanics
- Quality 2.5 litre engine
- Five speed manual transmission
- The 944 fires into life quickly and comfortably and in no time settles into a comfortable idle
- Presented in running driving order
- The vendor informs us that the tachometer has recently stopped working
- Having been sparingly used the vendor advises that the car would likely benefit from a general mechanical going over and freshen up before any use as there may be additional faults which are not noted
- It appears the gear shift could be tighter although seemingly able to select gears smoothly
- Underside appears to be in generally clean order having recently acquired an advisory free MOT
Summary
What resulted with the 944, was the one of the most successful Porsches ever made to this day. Manufacturing around 163,000 units, the 944 was the most successful up until the introduction of the Porsche Boxster. No mean feat for the radical new comer with its engine at the wrong end!
Today they stand as a wonderful way into the world of classic Porsche ownership with a truly fun and undeniably stylish car to drive. This 1987 example is a wonderful presentation of the model that holds excellent scope to become a truly special car.
