The Appeal

It's hard to ignore the pure unadulterated success of Mercedes in the 1980s. The marque was in absolutely top form, demonstrating that style performance and luxury needn’t come at the compromise of quality and reliability. Engineered to perfection the Mercedes’ of the era were unrivalled and retain a legendary status to this day. Therefore those looking for a stylish luxury roadster that lacked the temperamental nature of some of the other European alternatives, there really was only one option, the R107 Mercedes SL.
Lavishly appointed, impeccably engineered and beautifully styled the R107 could do it all and quickly rose the ranks to become one of the all time great Mercedes. As it stands today the R107 is one of the most ubiquitous cars in the classic motoring world and for good reason, with collectors quickly catching on to the genuine all round usability of the open top cruiser.
At present the 300SL appears to be the one to go for in the world of SLs, a perfect midpoint and blend of all of the models best features, and that is exactly what we find ourselves looking at here today. This 1987 300SL presents in great overall form and is finished in a wonderful period correct colour scheme. Excellently styled and well equipped, it undoubtedly makes a great case for daily driving a classic car, just looking at it begs the question, why wouldn't you?
