The Appeal
The Land Rover Defender is a vehicle of timeless appeal – a direct descendant of the original 1948 Land Rover and one that has seen increasing values and levels of collectability since it went out of production in 2016.
This one is a good example – a 1987 90, which was fully rebuilt by its previous owner onto a new galvanised and powder-coated chassis, and fitted with the much sought-after 200 TDi turbodiesel engine, with an LT77 five-speed manual gearbox, upgraded vented disc brakes, braided hoses and upgraded rear hubs with leak-free seals.
It’s a seven-seater, with two fold-down benches in the rear, and has been fully retrimmed with smart black leatherette seats.
The vendor and his family have used the truck for a couple of years, taking it on weekend days out and light off-roading courses, keeping on top of its maintenance with a well-respected Land Rover specialist in Cambridgeshire.
It’s a smart and solid example with no evident corrosion, and is sold in good working order throughout, with an MOT valid until September 2025.
If you’re in the market for a well-sorted 90, with arguably the best engine, and ready to be enjoyed by all the family, then here it is – a great vehicle for summer adventures, while doubling up as a useful workhorse at the same time.
