Highlights
- Unmolested original example
- Very low miles & especially for this sporting tourer model
- Comes complete with BMW panniers & topbox
Appeal
This really is a gem of a K100. Finished in BMWs very desirable Caribic blue with contrasting black on the engine, frame, forks & exhaust trim, it looks almost as good as it would have done when it rolled off the production line in 1987, 35 years ago.
We would suggest that it’s hardly seen rain during this time and certainly not been out on our salt laden roads over the winter or used, as many have, as a commuter bike. High days & holidays is when we believe this K100’s been ridden and by careful, enthusiastic owners judging by the many invoices in the history file.
You’ll struggle to find another with this low mileage, but with the addition of the topbox & panniers this BMW could provide a reliable mile crunching sports tourer for that next European tour. Perfect for the motorway blasts & then point it at the twisty mountain passes & it’ll show most modern bikes the way home.
Sports bike? Long distance tourer? The K100 RS will do both admirably.

Exerior
Paintwork on the K100 is in very good condition with very little in the way of scratches or blemishes.
There are one or two expected very small stone chips on the front of the fairing, along with very small scrapes on the extremities of each mirror. Unfortunately, during the photoshoot the machine toppled over onto it’s near side, lightly scratching the edge of the fairing, but this will easily repair & restore its stunning looks.
Alloy wheels front & back are in an almost spotless condition & are laced with matching Avon Roadrider tyres. Stainless steel braided brake hoses have replaced the originals, adding to braking efficiency as well as aesthetics.
A topbox adorns the rear rack & this bike comes with matching BMW quickly attachable/ detachable panniers.
There are 2 sets of keys to go with the bike.
Mechanics
The BMW started easily from cold & the vendor told us it hadn’t been run for a few weeks.Very quickly settling into a steady tick over, the engines sounded very quiet and smooth when being moved around for the photos.the gears appeared to engage freely, and clutch take up was smooth as to all be expected considering BMWs excellent build quality.
With this bike being shaft drive, there’s nothing to check here and of course it was nice & clean, no chain oil splattered here. The vendor bought this K100 without seeing it, discussed it in detail with the previous owner & was very pleased with his purchase once it arrived. He tells us that it rides extremely well with ample power available when requested.

Summary
BMW’s K100 RS Sports Tourer, did I mention it was originally specified with Sports suspension?
Low mileage, well looked after by enthusiastic owners and in such great condition, it’s ready to go on tour straight away.
This has got to be fabulous value for money, it’s a BMW after all and with all that entails, reliability, performance, handling it’s got the lot so what’s not to like!
