The Appeal
Bringing together Pininfarina bodywork with Alfa Romeo’s exquisite DOHC Nord engine, the 105 Series Spider proved immensely successful and spanned four generations over an epic 28 year production run.
Here we have a really good example of the Series 3 Spider, known as the Aerodinamica due to its distinctive Kamm spoiler. It has recently been resprayed its original colour, making a very bright example and the vendor informs us that it drives impeccably. If your collection is lacking a convertible roadster, this little Alfa Romeo is sure to be fantastic fun.
The History and Paperwork
- It appears this Spider started life as a fuel injected model and has since been converted to carburettors
- Ported to Spain from the United States of America
- Still has its American Title
- EU customs cleared and taxes paid
- The vendor informs us that it is now ready to be registered
- Recent repaint and fluid service
The Interior
- Appears to be very original
- The dashboard doesn’t have any splits and presents well
- The instrument binnacle looks to be in reasonable condition
- A modern stereo is fitted
- All of the switchgear is in fair condition
- The vinyl seats with velour inserts are likely the original items and have survived well with minimal wear considering their age
- The steering wheel exhibits a little corrosion and the rim has been repaired with tape at some point
- The oatmeal carpets are quite worn and would benefit from replacement
- We could see a little deterioration to the inside of the convertible hood
- The door cards are worn but remain intact
- The original boot carpet shows its age as it’s quite worn and discoloured
The Exterior
- Recently repainted in its original red
- Straight bodywork with good door fitment
- Few blemishes of note and the respray appears to have been completed to a good standard
- The soft top is apparently original and is in really good condition overall
- The rear window remains quite clear
- ATS alloy wheels as were fitted from new on some Spiders
- Impact bumpers front and rear
- Rubber kamm boot spoiler
- Underneath, the floor pans look really sound and there’s not much corrosion to be seen
- The sills look to be in really good order
- All of the trim, glass and light lenses appear in good condition
The Mechanics
- 2.0-litre DOHC Nord engine
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- Appears to have been fuel injected originally and now using carburetors
- The battery has been relocated from under the bonnet to inside the boot
- Starts easily and settles down to a steady idle
- The vendor informs us that it drives really well
- Recent oil change and tune
