The Appeal

The hot hatchback is perhaps more popular than it has ever been, and rightly so, has cemented itself as a pivotal part of the modern automotive world. But where did it all start? With three all important, rather infamous letters, GTI.

When it first came to market the Golf GTI turned heads and changed the scope of performance cars for “the everyman”. Stylish, practical and astoundingly quick, the GTI really did change the game and some 8 generations later, is still seen as the benchmark for what a hot hatch should be.

This 1986 MK2 is an alluring example of the coveted model. A far cry from standard CL factory specification, it now sports a far more enticing G60 engine conversion, upping performance to a very respectable level, which along with some other choice upgrades including a Jabba supercharger and G60 mouldings makes this a very appealing candidate for those looking for a quality modified classic hot hatchback.

Summary

The Volkswagen Golf is a car that will undoubtedly reside in the automotive hall of fame with little to no objection. Something of a genesis for the hot hatch, the Golf excited minds and B-roads for just about anyone who drove one, and this second generation model still possesses that kindred spirit. Raw, cool, practical, and above all else fun.

Boasting a selection of attractive modifications including an impressive G60 engine swap. This 1986 MK2 has to be a tempting proposition for one looking to get into the world of classic Golf ownership, but who longs for increased performance and more flair than the average model.
