The Appeal
The original W460 was a marriage of Mercees-Benz quality and Steyr-Daimler-Puch go-anywhere versatility. It was as utilitarian as a Land Rover but with the comfort and luxury of a Range Rover.
Puch-badged versions were available on some markets and followed the same template and range of engines. The 3litre OM617 is arguably the pick of the bunch, offering decent performance and economy with the usual enduring reliability you expect from a Mercedes-Benz motor.
