The Appeal
Produced from 1975-1996, the XJ-S was Jaguar's luxury grand touring coupé. Available with a range of drivetrains, from 1981 the 5.3-litre 'High Efficiency' V12 really was the engine of choice.
But this car is no ordinary XJ-S, it's a Jubilee Edition by Guy Salmon, which makes it one of the rarest examples of the model. Only a handful of these cars would be built, and it is now increasingly hard to find. So this is your opportunity to acquire a rare and extremely collectible piece of Jaguar history.

The interior of this Jaguar is a marvellous place to enjoy watching the miles roll by. All the leather seats are presented in very good condition, with no obvious rips, tears or staining. Complementing the fine leather upholstery, the carpets and door cards are also in fine fettle. Finished in matching grey tones, they bring the interior together very nicely. As can be seen from the pictures, all of the controls, instruments and internal trim elements are in good condition, with only light blemishes and evidence of wear in line with the vehicle's age.
In the boot area, you will find a full-size spare wheel complete with its vinyl cover, an original toolkit and the original first aid kit.
There are one or two areas that are in need of attention. For instance, there is some damage and a small amount of delamination present on the wood veneer of the transmission tunnel. However, the most obvious area in need of some attention is the headlining, which needs to be replaced. The previous owner did try and rectify the problem but was unable to finish the job.

These are relatively minor issues though, and overall the interior is in good condition.
The Exterior
- Cobalt Blue Metallic paintwork
- Unique "Jubilee Edition" styling
- 15" multi-spoke alloys with Pirelli tyres
The XJ-S has always been a very handsome vehicle, and this is Guy Salmon special edition enhances those looks with exclusive features you won’t find on any other XJ-S. At the front, there is an exclusive style of grille, while the rear deck and roof both sport uniquely styled spoilers. Guy Salmon also opted for the more distinctive quad lights upfront.
Generally, the exterior condition of this special edition Jaguar is very good. The wheels are all in very good condition, with only a few minor blemishes. Similarly, all of the exterior trim is present and correct, including the special front grille and rear spoiler. Most importantly, the Guy Salmon Jubilee XJ-S badge still sits in pride of place next to the V12 badge.
It should be noted that this car is presented in original, unrestored condition. As such, over the past 30 years, there have been a few touch ups on the exterior. You will predominantly find these on the roof and rear arches. The current owner has decided to leave these as they are, presenting the car in its authentic state.
The Mechanics
- 5.3-litre V12 HE engine
- ZF automatic transmission
Always intended as a proper luxury grand tourer, it makes complete sense that Jaguar placed a mighty 5.3-litre V12 at the XJ-S's heart. It provides the kind of smooth, effortless and heady performance that these vehicles require. Mated to a smooth automatic transmission, it's the perfect combination for zipping down to the south of France in absolute comfort.
The engine starts well and pulls the car along nicely. The owner tells us that the car glides along the road nicely, stopping promptly when required.
With a good service history, low mileage and very little use over the last few years (just over 5,000 miles since 1998), this car's lovely drivetrain should be good for many more miles yet.

Summary
Jaguar's XJ-S is a rapidly appreciating car, both in terms of values and general desirability. Good ones are becoming rarer, and special editions like this have real collector's cache. Not only is this a very rare car, it's hugely charming with a great specification and good history. With a little love and work, this would soon be back to its stunning best. It's a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most individual XJ-S's on the market.
