The Appeal
There are many Minis, but there are really only two types: simple, humble city runarounds and rally-inspired sports go-karts.
This 1986 began as one and now is very much the latter. First registered as a City E, it has undergone a fantastic transformation into a neat replica of ‘Number 37’, the Monte MIni piloted by Paddy Hopkirk to victory in 1964. It gives the buyer one of the most distinctive Minis we’ve seen in a while and a sure-fire conversation starter wherever its shown - or fills up for fuel.
The work has evolved the City E lines with a wider stance - helped by fast Superlight wheels and arch guards - and some well considered decals. You’ll find references to two of rallying’s greats on the flanks - naturally, Mr Hopkirk and his modern-day successor, Tommi Makinen.
The car is in very good overall condition. Recent work since 2019 has included new clutch, head gasket, various seals, track rod ends, ball joints and bushes, clutch slave cylinder and four wheel alignment. Immediately prior to sale the car was serviced and the carbuettor tuned. It will be sold with 12 months MOT.
If you’re looking for an individual and distinctive Mini with a characterful nod to the car’s illustrious history, you may just have found it.
