The Appeal
When Italian industrialist Alejandro de Tomaso assumed control of Maserati 1975 he was anxious not only to eradicate all links to previous owners Citroen but make a clear statement of intent. Under de Tomaso Maserati was back, and it woud be all-Italian.
The result was the Quattroporte III. The name may have been simple but there was nothing ordinary about this Giugiaro masterpiece. Beyond the crisp bodywork was a sumptuous leather-and-wood interior while under the bonnet was Maserati’s venerable Typo 107 V8 in 4.9litre displacement. Rear suspension was heavily influenced by Jaguar and endowed the new car with nimble handling.
By Maserati standards the new car was a success, although just 2,145 were built over 11 years. After all, these were big, very expensive cars for a rarified audience.
This magnificent 1985 car surely ticks any box buyers of these cars will have. For starters there is the somber anthracite metallic paintwork that contrasts with the stunning caramel interior, both in well preserved condition. It is a low mileage car with impeccable service history having just been released from an Italian classic car collection.
