The Appeal
There was a time when you almost couldn’t move for Mk3 Escorts. Honestly, they were everywhere. A genuine “car of the people”, they came in a raft of specifications from base three-doors to fire-breathing homologation specials and commercial vans. They were the backbone of everyday transport in the UK for many years.
And then they disappeared. The ravages of time took their toll and Mk3s are now, sadly, quite a rare sight on our streets. But there is a thriving modern classics scene around Fords from this period, with numerous clubs, shows and parts suppliers. So although it’s now a rare car, keeping one on the road and enjoying its retro aesthetic is actually quite easy.
This handsome cabriolet example is fitted with the perky 1.6-litre CVH inline-four and presents in very good order, with low mileage and a fine MOT history. If you’re looking for a retro classic to enjoy this summer – and one that could easily be a hit at a few shows with some minor tidying up – then this is definitely one to consider.
