1985 Audi Ur Quattro 10V Coupé

Highlights

  • In current ownership for eleven years
  • Recent comprehensive mechanical overhaul by A.M. Cars costing £10,000
  • Rare Treser front/rear spoilers and steering wheel

The Appeal

Development of the Quattro began in 1977 when Audi chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger managed to fit the four-wheel-drive system from the Volkswagen Ilitis military truck under the 80 saloon. Add a five-cylinder turbocharged engine, and they were on to a winning formula - quite literally.

Audi had the World Rally Championship in its sights and after persuading the FIA to drop the four-wheel-drive ban in 1979, the stage was set for world domination. The rules dictated that all constructors needed to market a roadgoing 'homologation special' and  Audi launched the Quattro to European buyers in late 1980. By 1982, Audi had its first WRC win under its belt, bringing home a second in 1984.

We're honoured to present this highly original 1985 10V Ur Quattro. Resplendent in red and boasting rare Treser front and rear spoilers, it was the ultimate high-performance coupé of its day and remains an exceedingly desirable car.

With only 73,551 miles on the clock which is reportedly an accurate figure, this Quattro has been enjoyed sparingly. The vendor has owned it for eleven years and recently the car has been subject to a £10,000 mechanical overhaul by A.M. Cars, with very few miles covered since.

If you're in the market for a '80s rally royalty, we can heartily recommend this 10V Ur Quattro.

This car couldn't be more '80s if it tried. Performance and rally successes aside, the Quattro is a design classic. That boxy silhouette, punctuated by muscular haunches and, in the case of this car, Treser spoilers fore and aft, look absolutely fabulous. The colour really suits it and we love the period BBS alloys, the digital dashboard and the leather-bound Treser steering wheel. It really doesn't get cooler than this.

As the photos show, this Audi continues to be a very bright example with arrow-straight bodywork and exceedingly smart trim. The interior looks fabulous, with few signs of notable wear, thanks to the low mileage.

The Mechanics

  • 2.1-litre 10-valve turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine producing 200 bhp
  • 5-speed manual gearbox
  • Comprehensive £10,000 mechanical overhaul by A.M. Cars and very few miles since
  • New battery recently installed
  • Very smart engine compartment
  • Mechanically standard and unmodified
Permanent four-wheel drive wasn't even the norm in most off-roaders during the 1980s, and in the Quattro Coupé, it was nothing short of revolutionary. The inline five-cylinder engine offers 200 horsepower and an offbeat 'warble' from the exhaust mingled with a regular 'woosh' from that huge turbo.

We're informed that around £10,000 has recently been spent overhauling this Quattro mechanically and as a result, it is said to start "on the button". The vendor assures us it's ready to drive away and enjoy.
