The Background
The Series 1 Range Rover, now known as the Classic Range Rover was produced between 1969 and 1996. Initially it was only available in a 2-door body, in 1981 a 4 door version was added to the line up.
Whilst Range Rovers are considered by many as a luxury marque now days with celebs and footballers alike fighting over them , the original Range Rover was not designed as a luxury-type vehicle. While compared to previous utilitarian offerings from Land Rover it certainly seemed up-market, but the early Range Rovers still had fairly basic interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards that were designed to be washed down with a hose.
Further convenience features such as power steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth/leather seats, and wooden interior trim were fitted much later.
The Range Rover had a spec list, boxy body on a box section ladder type chassis, coil springs as opposed to leaf springs for improved ride and control, permanent four wheel drive, disc brakes all round and the tried and tested Rover-Buick 3.5litre V8 rumble under the bonnet.
A simple recipe which made a great impact when released and has continued to be refined over the years leading the way for the many different versions you see Range Rover still producing today.
The History
This particular vehicle is a 1984 two door Range Rover, one of the last factory 2 door models in-fact. It has the rare 5 Speed manual gearbox with the sought after optional power steering. Finished in Arctic White with a Beige/oatmeal Interior.
As you will see from the images supplied by the owner the car under went a comprehensive restoration in 2018/2019 just before the current owner took possession but there is a memory stick with photo proof of restoration with the cars paperwork.
The Paperwork
Many invoices are present for everything from the new stainless steel exhaust system to individual nuts, bolts and washers used in the restoration. Unfortunately no service book is present. The V5 is present and the car is MOT’d until 15/01/22
There is also a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate confirming that this is an original right hand drive car, built 29-30 May 1984 and dispatched from the factory 14th June 1984.
The Interior
The entire interior was removed as part of the restoration of course and small fixtures and fittings replaced. The seats have been recovered in the Original Oatmeal velour material. Everything else has also been recovered including centre console and cubby box. In addition, a set of all new rubber mats reside underneath the also new beige carpet set.
The Exterior
The exterior is in fantastic condition having been beautifully resprayed in original Arctic White in 2019, there are no dents or imperfections. There is no visible rust typical of a Range Rover of this age and the engine bay is very clean. The car is fitted with recently new steel wheels and tyres which complete the look.
The Mechanics
This vehicle has undergone a ground up nut and bolt body restoration in addition to a full engine overhaul so mechanically it goes as well as it looks. The Stromberg carburettors have been fully refreshed with new diaphragms, filters and breathers plus glanced and tuned to ensure she runs well.
There are no weird knocks and bangs and the car drives like it would have done when new in 1984.
The Appeal
The Classic Range Rover as its now known against its modern younger brothers and sister models is just that, an absolute classic. The 2 door body style on a vehicle like this is quite unique and at present early models like this are considered extremely stylish and as a result are very sought after.
We are very lucky here at Car and Classic to be able to offer such vehicles to you for sale, we feel this has to be one of the cleanest two door early Range Rovers for sale in the country right now.
The full restoration it had in 2018/2019 has been completed to a great standard and the car now wants for nothing except a new owner to love and cherish it and maybe show it some mud every now and again just as the designers intended.
