The Appeal
Yes, the 928 is a seriously good GT. But there’s a strong case to argue that it’s an even better sports car. Sadly, few customers got the chance to find out because 90% of cars were sold with the cruise-o-matic automatic gearbox.
Not this one. Originally supplied new in Cape Town, South Africa on 1st January 1984, it is one of the exceptionally rare and desirable 5spd manual cars, finished in stand-out Indian Red with beige leather cabin. Purists will also relish the fact that it is a pre-facelift ‘S’ - known in the UK as S2s - with the rubber front and rear lip spoilers. As a 1984 car it has the later, improved and more powerful version of the 4.7L V8 motor.
The car remained in the dry, cossetting climes of South Africa, passing through the hands of just four keepers - the last for 17 years - before arriving in the UK in November 2023. Since arriving the vendor has lavished investment upon in, including new clutch, cambelts and full service.
With less than 45,000 miles from new, that engaging manual box and great condition, this is a real find for enthusiasts of Porsche’s brilliant front-engined V8 sports car. That it is now eligible for Historic Vehicle status, making it tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt, merely adds to the appeal.
