1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D Auto (W123)

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Only 2 owners from new
  •  Very low mileage
  •  Amazing condition inside and out

THE APPEAL

The Mercedes-Benz W123 is the most successful Mercedes-Benz ever produced, selling 2.7 million cars worldwide before replacement in 1985. It is renowned for it’s build quality, safety and reliability and exudes understated class and exclusivity.
This stunning Mercedes-Benz represents a great opportunity to own one of the coolest German saloon cars around. It is stylish and comfortable and should waft you down the road all day long.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  •  Minimal use as a wedding car
  •  Has been garaged
  •  The Vehicle Registration Document is present
This Mercedes 300D was first registered on the 27th February 1984 and resided in the Burgess Hill area until the second current owner purchased it four years later on the 8th August 1988.
For the last 34 years this iconic model has been stored in a dry garage and occasionally deployed as a wedding car. Any maintenance requirements have been attended to but due to it’s recent lack of use, the owner has decided to sell.
The last ‘Pass’ MOT was carried out in May 2018 at 70,762 miles and the car is currently untaxed.
The only paperwork available on the day of the photoshoot was the Vehicle Registration Document.

THE INTERIOR

  •  Immaculate condition throughout
  •  Simple features
  •  Comfortable luxury
This exceptional interior is definitely one to be proud of. The classic Mercedes steering wheel and uncluttered dash offers a speedometer, temperature gauge, oil gauge and a big analogue clock.
Enhanced with the familiar touch of wood and a simple uncluttered layout, the centre console features basic temperature and de-mist controls and concessions to electronic gizmos include
central locking, an electric sunroof and electric passenger door mirror. Other than that it’s wonderfully minimal and consequently easy to look after.
The blue cloth and vinyl upholstery is in fantastic condition with no obvious rips or tears and the door cards and trim are equally good along with near perfect headlining and carpeting.
The huge boot space is clean and the carpet is undamaged. The original spare wheel, jack and small tool kit are present along with the original warning triangle.

THE EXTERIOR

  •  Elegant Classic White coachwork
  •  Crisp styling
  •  Structurally sound
The crisp lines of the boxy 1980’s Mercedes saloon has now become a style icon and is definitely high up on the ‘cool’ scale.

Here, the elegant Mercedes Classic White coachwork is by and large free of any major imperfections with the exception of a small ding on the leading edge of the bonnet, a couple of dings on the offside drivers door and offside rear wing. There is also a small area of paint missing on the c-pillar trim (see photos).
Some small areas of surface rust are evident on the front valance, but the wheel arches, sills and boot floor appear to be in very sound.
The glass, mirrors, lights and chrome work are all very presentable along with the bumpers, although the rear bumper has a small dent and the chrome is tarnished but may be improved with a polish.
The floor and suspension components look solid and clean although the exhaust system is looking a little tired. Lastly, the original steel wheels are shod with original trims and older stock size 175/14 Firestone tyres on the front and Dunlop ones on the rear.

THE MECHANICS

  •  Low mileage
  •  Legendary Mercedes reliability
  •  Simple to maintain
The naturally aspirated 2998cc inline 5-cylinder engine produces around 87bhp so is unlikely to win any races, however it will get you there reliably and in style.
Mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox, the bullet proof Mercedes diesel engine is capable of high mileages and is easily maintained. The owner tells us that this one starts with ease, ticks over nicely and drives well, and crucially stops well with the aid of the all-round disc brakes.
Although there is no paperwork evidence, the owner assures us that regular servicing has been carried out during his 34 year ownership.
Mechanically speaking, with just over 70,000 miles on the clock, this great example should easily be good for many more years to come.

SUMMARY

Style and comfort are the order of the day and this fine example has it in spades. Having clearly lead a cosseted life, this particular Mercedes-Benz is surely a rare find in this condition.
